Unseen forces shape our world. Microbiology delves into this hidden universe, exploring the intricate lives of bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites. From the microscopic battles within our bodies to the delicate balance of ecosystems, microbiology holds the key to understanding life itself, driving break throughs in medicine, agriculture and beyond, where the smallest things make the biggest impact. It is a specialized unit within the hospital in our city, research institution or public health agency dedicated to the study of microorganisms. The department’s core functions typically revolve around diagnostics, research and education.
FACILITIES AND EQUIPMENTS
The department has a well-equipped laboratory includes biosafety cabinets for handling pathogenic organisms, incubators for culturing microorganisms, microscopes for visualization, sophisticated instruments for molecular diagnostics, automated bacterial identification and antimicrobial susceptibility testing. Students adhere to strict safety protocols to protect personnel and the environment.
GOALS
To provide strong foundation in microbiology- covering fundamental principles like microbial physiology, genetics, diversity and ecology.
To develop practical skills – focus on teaching students essential lab skills using microscopes, growing cultures and applying molecular biology techniques.
To foster critical thinking – to develop thinking skills to analyze research papers, designing experiments and interpreting data.
To conduct research – exploring new technologies and applications of use of microbes in bioremediation and discovering new antibiotics.
To create stimulating learning environment- department aims to foster a supportive and engaging atmosphere where students can thrive.
To promote ethical practices- instiling ethical principles in research and lab works
Criteria for admission
Typically, you’ll need to have passed your higher secondary school (10+2) examination or its equivalent.
A science stream with physics, chemistry and biology/ vocational group/ biochemistry or microbiology or biology or pure Science (botany and zoology). Biology is a mandatory subject.
