It is a specialized unit within the hospital in our city, research institution or public health agency dedicated to the study of microorganisms. The department’s core functions typically revolve around diagnostics, research and education.

FACILITIES AND EQUIPMENTS

The department has a well-equipped laboratory includes biosafety cabinets for handling pathogenic organisms, incubators for culturing microorganisms, microscopes for visualization, sophisticated instruments for molecular diagnostics, automated bacterial identification and antimicrobial susceptibility testing. Students adhere to strict safety protocols to protect personnel and the environment.

• To provide strong foundation in microbiology- covering fundamental principles like microbial physiology, genetics, diversity and ecology.
• To develop practical skills – focus on teaching students essential lab skills using microscopes, growing cultures and applying molecular biology techniques.

Criteria for admission

• Typically, you’ll need to have passed your higher secondary school (10+2) examination or its equivalent.
• A science stream with physics, chemistry and biology/ vocational group/ biochemistry or microbiology or biology or pure Science (botany and zoology). Biology is a mandatory subject.
