About the Department of Biochemistry

The department of Biochemistry was started in 1998 with the undergraduate course affiliated to the University of Madras. The department continues to elevate its academic interests and skills. The department had been given University first rank in the year 2010 and 2nd rank in the year 2014. The academic interests of our department faculty and students have been sustained by participating in number of conferences, seminars, workshops and various extracurricular activities. The department believes that Life Science students must undergo 2years DMLT course and industrial visits. To improve the technical knowledge and other required soft skills, Naan-Mudhalvan courses to be enabled so that their employment opportunities may be increased.

Goals

Biochemistry is the Branch of Life Science that deals with the chemical reactions occurring inside the living system. It gives an understanding of Nature of biomolecules, structure, functions and their molecular reactions.

Biochemistry is the Life Science with special focus on Laboratory clinical Sciences.

Eligibility: Admission to the first year of B.Sc degree course in Biochemistry is pass in the +2 Examination with chemistry as mandatory subject.
